Palais des
Papes : restauration de la chapelle St Martial
La
chapelle Saint-Martial du Palais des Papes constitue un véritable chef-d’œuvre
de la peinture du XIVe siècle. Commande du pape Clément VI, les décors peints de
cette chapelle sont l’œuvre exceptionnelle du peintre italien Matteo
Giovannetti. Fermée au public depuis de nombreuses années pour des raisons liées
à sa conservation, la chapelle Saint-Martial bénéficie aujourd’hui d’un très
important chantier de restauration qui devrait se terminer en juillet 2014.

Palace of the
Popes: restoration of St Martial Chapel
The Saint Martial chapel at the Palace of the Popes is a
true masterpiece of 14th century painting. The painted decors in the chapel were
commissioned by Pope Clement VI, and executed by the Italian painter Matteo
Giovannetti The chapel has long been closed to the public for preservation
reasons. Today, the current major restoration project is scheduled to end in
