EZIO BOSSO RETURNS TO CONDUCT IN ITALY
ON OCTOBER 17TH AT LA FENICE IN VENICE!
Leading the Orchestra Filarmonica della Fenice
WITH SERGEJ KRYLOV AS VIOLIN SOLOIST
FOR THE FIRST TIME, REHEARSALS WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
After his extraordinary solo piano summer tour “The 12th Room Tour,” Ezio Bosso returns to his natural role as an orchestra conductor on October 17th at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, where he will lead the prestigious Orchestra Filarmonica della Fenice!
The concert will feature a specially curated program, chosen in collaboration with the orchestra, including works by Johann Sebastian Bach (Brandenburg Concerto No. 3), Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90), and Ezio Bosso himself (Violin Concerto No. 1 “Esoconcerto”).
Violin soloist SERGEJ KRYLOV, regarded as one of the world’s greatest violin virtuosos, will perform. An outstanding musician, he is a close colleague and dear friend of Ezio Bosso.
«I am happy and anxious, smiling and scared,» – says Ezio Bosso – «It’s a true debut, and beside me will be one of my dearest friends whom I have already described as a violin hero: Sergej Krylov. I am returning to conduct a full concert, and I am proud that the philharmonic of a city dear to me has asked me to embark on this journey together, working together: after all, it will be my first time conducting them, and for them, it will be their first time tackling Mendelssohn and Bosso. So, I am even more honored and entrusted with the task of working on one of the most thrilling symphonies in history, Mendelssohn’s famous Italian Symphony.»
The Orchestra Filarmonica della Fenice,
established in 2010, is an association of musicians from the “Gran Teatro la Fenice.” Comprising about 90 permanent members, the Orchestra aims to promote symphonic music among the public and support young talents. Collaborations with world-renowned conductors and soloists performing in the major symphonic seasons of Teatro La Fenice form the invaluable musical experiences of the Orchestra, which seeks to continue offering purely symphonic performances to national and international audiences.
«The choice and original juxtaposition of such diverse pieces, made with Maestro Bosso, has created a concert never before performed, a musical challenge and novelty in its kind in a place like Teatro La Fenice, always an oxymoron of tradition and innovation,» comments Stefano Pratissoli, principal double bass of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Fenice «A coherent musical synthesis that aims to engage the audience and guide them on a musical journey from Bach, a cornerstone of Western tonal music, through the emotional spaces of Ezio Bosso’s creative vision, to Mendelssohn, a composer who more than any other knew how to translate the dimension of travel into music. Working closely with both the conductor and composer during the concert is an emotion rarely experienced, an occasion where making music will take on its fullest meaning.»
In line with Ezio Bosso’s philosophy, who always maintains that «music belongs to no one but is made together,» the rehearsals for the October 17th concert will be open to the public. This will be a unique experience, organized for the first time in Italy, where the composer and conductor will engage with the audience, allowing them to observe the process of building a classical music concert and immerse themselves in the empathy between conductor and orchestra. In addition to open rehearsals, La Fenice will host an open studio: a moment of encounter, discussion, exchange, and learning with Ezio Bosso for “making music together.” Further details on access and information will be announced soon. “The 12th Room”
(Incipit/EGEA Music) is Ezio Bosso’s first official solo album. Following his performance at the Sanremo Festival, the album “The 12th Room” reached the top position on Italy’s iTunes album chart and was certified Gold (certifications by FIMI / GfK Italia).
It is a concept album consisting of two CDs:
the first disc contains four unreleased tracks and seven pieces from the piano repertoire, each representing metaphorical stages of life, and a second disc featuring Sonata No. 1 in G Minor, symbolizing the twelfth room. Recorded almost entirely live in September 2015 during concerts at Teatro Sociale di Gualtieri (Reggio Emilia), the album is available in traditional stores, digital download, and on major streaming platforms.
“The 12th Room Tour”
is the solo piano tour in which the composer and conductor has been achieving sold-out shows and standing ovations across Italy, creating a musical dialogue between the original sound of his ‘friend’ Steinway Grand Piano and the audience, who participate in the performance in captivated silence.
Ezio Bosso
is a pianist, composer, and conductor born in Turin. He studied Composition and Conducting at the Vienna Academy, leading some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, The London Strings, the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino, and the Orchestra dell’Accademia della Scala. He has composed classical music, film scores (for Gabriele Salvatores’ “I’m Not Scared” and Cristiano Bortone’s “Red Like the Sky”), theatre music (for directors like James Thierrée), and dance music (for choreographers like Rafael Bonchela), as well as experimental works with contemporary rhythms.
Since 2011, Ezio Bosso has been living with a progressive neurodegenerative disease. He performs with his “friend” Steinway & Sons Grand D Piano and uses a versatile and supportive stool called “12,” created in collaboration with architect Simone Gheduzzi of Diverse Righe Studio.
